A St. Florence teenager has appeared in court charged with possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

Nineteen-year-old Kyle Birch pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that police attended the defendant’s home address on December 13, with a search warrant under the misuse of drugs act.

“Mr. Birch was in an upstairs bedroom at the time and told officers that the cannabis was behind a cushion on the sofa. He told officers that he was selling some of it to mates.”

The court heard how 26.21 grammes in total were found, along with paraphernalia such as weighing scales and grinders. Cash was also found with the bags of cannabis.

“Mr. Birch told officers that he had been struggling financially and was selling two-gram bags for £20 each,” added Ms Morgan.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that his client’s full and honest admissions to officers had led to the charge in court for possessing with intent to supply.

“He did supply some of his friends on a limited basis. They have all grown up together and they trust one another.

“Mr. Birch had been in work over the summer, but had only worked weekends since. He lives in the family home and is a recreational user of cannabis,” Mr. Kelleher told the court.

Magistrates gave Mr. Birch a 12-month community order with conditions to undertake a 15-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement with the probation service and 60 hours of unpaid work.

Mr. Birch was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and an £85 victim surcharge. A destruction order for the drugs was also passed.
