AUDREY Helena James (nee Rowlands) passed away peacefully at her home Rose Park Farm Llanteg on May 6 after a short illness. Her family would like to thank her wider family and friends for all the kindness and help they gave her over the years. Audrey (Aud) was born in Jersey Marine {Neath} on the January 15, 1926 and is the eldest of four children. After the sad death of her parents Douglas and Nellie Rowlands and a younger brother Brian, Aud aged 10, along with her two younger sisters moved to Whitland, to be adopted and brought up by their Grandparents John and Rosanna Rowlands.

In 1947 Aud married Geoffrey James, of Bevlin Farm, Llanteg and at St Mary’s Church, Whitland. Their first home was at Oaklands, Llanteg, and later they bought land which was part of the Barriets {now Rose Park Farm}, where they built their bungalow and later developed their business.

Aud loved singing so much and had a beautiful solo voice, which she used to full effect at village halls, chapels and churches within the local communities. This gift, as she called it, was recognised firstly by her headmaster at Whitland Primary School, and then enjoyed by all in the ensuing years.

On March 17, 1979, sadly and suddenly Geoff passed away at 57 years of age, and everyone was totally distraught by the events of that day. However, Aud never gave up and continued to run the business at Rose Park until she retired in her early 80s.

Aud was an active member of the Mothers Union and Women’s Institute and for many years she attended Crunwere Church. She was on Llanteg Village Hall Committee for over 20 years, and later in her life she was involved in Llanteg History Society.

She will be missed by all her family and friends and she leaves behind so many good memories of kindness and fun.

Her funeral service, which took place at St Mary’s Church, Whitland, was conducted by the Rev’d Kingsley Taylor and attended by family and friends from far and wide. Her family said: “Thanks so much to you all for making this day such a wonderful celebration of our Mum’s life, which we deeply appreciate.”
