A HOLIDAY resort near Narberth has been presented with The King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.

The award is Britain’s highest business accolade and recognises Pembrokeshire’s Bluestone National Park Resort as the first holiday resort in the country to be celebrated for its work in sustainable development.

Presenting the award was His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Dyfed, Miss Sara Edwards. She met founder and CEO William McNamara, sustainability director Marten Lewis, employees and invited guests at Bluestone’s all weather adventure play area, Serendome.

The Lord-Lieutenant’s visit was a chance to learn more about Bluestone’s long-term commitment to sustainability. She said:

“It was a great pleasure to present Bluestone with The King’s Award for Enterprise and to see the great work they do. The team’s passion for sustainability and their commitment to protecting the local area in Pembrokeshire shone through during my visit. Bluestone’s work is having a positive and lasting impact, and they should be extremely proud of everything they have achieved.”

Bluestone has achieved a fossil fuel–free operation on all purchased energy – the first holiday park in the UK to do so. It embraces circular economy practices, supports the local community, protecting and enhancing local nature and wildlife. Sustainability is seen as a shared responsibility across the entire organisation and 30 per cent of the business is staff owned.

CEO William McNamara said:

“As travel and tourism continue to evolve, companies like Bluestone have a growing responsibility to operate in ways that protect the places people come to enjoy. Receiving this award is a hugely exciting moment for everyone here. Our commitment to protecting nature, supporting local communities and driving sustainable tourism has been at the heart of our work for many years. To have these efforts recognised at the highest national level is something our whole team is incredibly proud of.”
