ON March 1, Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum’s Festival of the Sea returns to Milford Haven. This year the free family-friendly celebration of the sea, the coast and the communities connected to them has a new, bigger venue.
People of all ages are invited to Sybil House (opposite Phoenix Bowl) between 10am and 4pm. The one-day festival brings together local organisations, artists, performers and community groups to share knowledge, experiences and ideas about the marine environment in an accessible, welcoming setting.
A lively programme of hands-on activities, creative workshops and live performances includes a marine wildlife touch tank with the Field Studies Council, children’s art and clay workshops at the Waterfront Gallery, sea shanties and live music, and walkabout performances from costumed pirates.
Sue Burton, Pembrokeshire Marine Special Area of Conservation Officer, welcomes the return of the festival:
“The Festival of the Sea was really popular last year, and so I'm really pleased Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum and the Port of Milford Haven are bringing it back again, and in the bigger indoor venue of Sybil House.
“The marine environment of Pembrokeshire is internationally important for wildlife as well as for employment and energy.
“The festival is fun way to celebrate all the great work that is being done to work towards a better future for our seas - and of course it's a good opportunity to engage with young people and involve them through art workshops, face painting and fun street theatre.”
Organisations hosting information stands and activities will include the RNLI, Sea Trust, Project Seagrass, The Crown Estate, Car-y-Môr, Marine Conservation Society, Marine Energy Wales, and PCF-led projects.
Food and refreshments will be available on the day, including local produce from Pembrokeshire Beach Food.
