KILGETTY WI ladies enjoyed a wonderful day out in Ceredigion on June 9 including a castle visit and dolphin sighting.

After leaving Kilgetty on a rather dull and gloomy day the sun was shining by the time the ladies arrived at their first destination, Cardigan. There they had a very interesting tour of the castle with tour guide Kevin. They walked through the castle grounds seeing interesting features and saw exhibitions on display in the house.

Next stop was Newquay where the ladies had time for lunch before they boarded the ‘Suncatcher’ for a boat trip, hoping to see dolphins. They were not disappointed as before they had even left the harbour several dolphins were seen; some were mothers with their calves. The weather conditions were windy with quite rough seas but most found it exhilarating. After several dolphins had been sighted, the skipper took the boat further along the coast to see a bird colony and they even spotted a seal!

The members of Kilgetty WI thoroughly enjoyed their day out and thanks went to Jayne for organising it.

A short meeting was held at the beginning of the trip where secretary Shirley Cox congratulated Jayne Shorten for her recent achievement of competing in the ladies Welsh International Fly fishing team on Rutland water where they won silver. Overall Jayne finished 10th in the international and 4th in Wales. Well done Jayne!

Members were updated on future Pembrokeshire WI events and an evening planned to visit RNLI in Tenby on July 13. Birthdays celebrated during June are Julia Mills, Jean Smith and Linda Scott.

Next meeting will be held July 14, 7pm at Kilgetty community centre.
