Two people who stole food, clothing, electrical items and household goods from a store in Milford Haven have been fined in court.

Thirty-one-year-old Luke Davison, and twenty-eight-year-old Rebecca Sian Lenton, of Charles Street, both pleaded guilty when they appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday to separate charges of theft after they stole from the Tesco store in Milford on December 1.

Miss Lenton also admitted a further charge of attempted theft from the same store on December 4.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that on December 1 both defendants loaded up a trolley at the store with £323 worth of goods and left without paying.

“They had pulled security tags off items and got away,” he said.

On the second occasion, Miss Lenton again attempted to steal items this time to the value of £250 from the same store, but was spotted by a security guard.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that both defendants were new to the area having moved down to Pembrokeshire from Watford.

“They were short of money and things got the better of them in terms of temptation. They were both opportunistic thefts.

“Miss Lenton has a limited antecedent history and has not been in trouble since 2014, whilst Mr. Davison has relevant matters on record against him and is currently subject to a community order issued by Watford Magistrates Court.

Chief magistrate David Ellis told the defendants: “This was a very foolish thing to do - quite how you thought you’d get away with it, I don’t know!”

Both were fined £80 each for the offence and were ordered to split the £323 compensation to the Tesco store between them.

The defendants were also ordered by magistrates to each pay prosecution costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £32.
