A Milford Haven woman has been given a 12-month conditional discharge after admitting theft.

Twenty-one-year-old Morgan Elizabeth Coombs appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with stealing various electrical items and clothing to the value of £59 from Tesco in Haverfordwest.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that on May 26, at around 5.40 pm, security staff at the store monitoring the CCTV system spotted Ms Coombs entering the changing rooms with a basket full of items.

“When she came out, the items were gone and empty packaging, including an iPhone case and watch box, were found.

“Ms Coombs paid for other goods, including crisps and a drink, but not the other £59 worth of goods,” added Ms Morgan.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told magistrates that his client had been suffering anxiety problems and been receiving treatment for her mental health issues at the Bro Cerwyn Centre in Haverfordwest. He also explained that this charge predated a recent court appearance for fraud and driving whilst disqualified.

“Ms Coombs is under a suspended sentence with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement, so one would hope that this is her last time before the court, as she knows what door she will be leaving through if she does return!” he remarked.

Magistrates gave the defendant a 12-month conditional discharge and fined her £40 for the offence.

Ms Coombs was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
