A man accused of stealing over £1,000 from the store that he worked at is set for a Crown Court appearance next month.

Thirty-one-year-old Stuart McNiffe of Monkton, Pembroke, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday to admit a charge of theft from the Londis store on Main Street in Pembroke, to the value of £1,116.82.

Mr. McNiffe is accused of stealing scratch cards, lottery tickets, numerous food and drink items and cash from the till, from a period between May and October this year.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that the defendant worked at the store for a short period and his employers became suspicious that he might be stealing from the premises.

“CCTV was checked and Mr. McNiffe was seen taking scratch cards. If they were losers he would throw them in the bin, if they were winning cards, he would take the cash out if the till.

“When challenged he made full admissions. There is clearly a high breach of trust here, as the defendant was an employee, and the sentencing guidelines say this case should be sent to Crown Court to deal with,” he added.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction of the case and Mr. McNiffe who was released on unconditional bail was told to appear at Swansea Crown Court on January 3 for a further hearing.
