A Pembroke Dock man charged with driving with a quantity of drugs in his system has been handed a motoring ban and been fined after admitting the charges in court.
Twenty-four-year-old Marcus Arron Llewellyn, of Prospect Place, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of driving a Vauxhall Astra with cocaine and cannabis in his system.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that police officers stopped the defendant in his vehicle on September 15 on the A4076 at Johnston shortly after 6 pm for a moving traffic offence.
“Officers could smell drugs in the vehicle. A roadside drink-drive test was zero, but a drugs swipe proved positive for cocaine and cannabis.
“The aggravating feature is that he has taken more than one drug and was still driving. Mr. Llewellyn is also subject to a crown court suspended prison sentence,” added Mr. Pritchard-Jones.
Defence solicitor Tom Lloyd told the court that this offence predated the breach of Mr. Llewellyn’s suspended sentence order which runs until August.
A report from probation explained that the defendant had been complying and engaging well his current order.
“DDAS (Dyfed Drug and Alcohol Service) who Mr. Llewellyn has been engaging with says that he is free from drugs. He has battled drugs for a significant period of time, and is on the cusp of being fully rehabilitated,” added Mr. Lloyd.
Magistrates fined the defendant a total of £240 for both offences, and disqualified him from driving for 20 months.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £32 victim surcharge.
