A man who kicked in the glass door of a Pembroke betting shop has been ordered to pay a hefty sum of compensation and costs in court.

Twenty-eight-year-old Steven Michael Richard Kokolin, of Cumby Terrace, Pembroke Dock, pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that police were called to the incident which occurred on January 21 at the Coral bookmakers.

“Mr. Kokolin was seen kicking the front door in quick succession, before heading off. He was found by police and spoken to.

The manager of the bookmakers had also been spoken to and told officers that the defendant had been in a heated argument with someone else.

The court heard that Mr. Kokolin told police officers ‘I know I’ve done it, I kicked the door and broke the glass, I fully understand’.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that his client, who worked locally for an engineering company, had become somewhat wound up and had taken his temper out on an inanimate object.

Magistrates fined Mr. Kokolin £400 for the offence and ordered him to pay £194.40 in compensation to Coral bookmakers. He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £40 victim surcharge.
