Club Sailing

Saturday was a beautiful evening with a force three south-westerly breeze, so perfect sailing conditions. Eleven dinghies took to the water for two races in the club summer series. In the first race, Dan sailing with wife Tracey in their RS400 saw off all comers to take first, followed by Jaime/Griff in their Osprey, then Peter with James (one of our juniors making his debut in club racing - welcome James) in third.

In the second race, the Jacksons failed to maintain their form, the honours going to Jas/Steve Stubbs, from Jaime/Griff, then Mike/Deanna.

Junior report

At last excellent conditions resulted in 22 club dinghies and five RIBS on the water. It was decided to do a racing session for all those doing Stage 3 or above. Fifteen youngsters took part in the racing and enjoyed three short races over a triangular course set by Alistair and Jo.

There is an increasing interest in the racing side and we are holding a junior regatta on Saturday, July 1, turn up 9.30 am. Details will be sent out to all youngsters, but if not received, please ring 07717842713 to reserve a boat.  The aim is to get more youngsters joining in the club sailing, which takes place every Tuesday and Saturday evenings.

Results of the 3 races were:

Race 1 - 1. Ioan Thompson, Laser; 2. Max Richards, Laser; 3. Tom David and Megan Dooner, RS Feva.

Race 2 - 1. Ioan Thompson, Laser; 2. Anna Otahalova, Optimist; 3. Oscar Thompson, Topper.

Race 3 - 1. Ioan Thompson, Laser; 2. Max Richards, Laser; 3. James Goodwin Close, Topper

The Stage 1 group taken by Blake progressed well and have now started Stage 2.

Cruiser racing

The Tuesday and Sunday races had to be cancelled due to calm conditions. However, seven of the racing fleet were on the water on Father’s Day under engine and enjoyed an impromptu cruise in company. They look forward to the round Caldey race this coming Sunday, with cruiser start time 12 noon (warning signal  11.55 ).
