After seeing Dawn Bilbrough who finished a 48 hour week as a critical care nurse in York only to find empty shelves in her local supermarket after a bout of panic buying, local hotel and restaurant Trefloyne decided to do something to help local NHS?workers during the Coronavirus crisis.
Joan Beynon, who owns and runs the hotel with her husband Kim, son Tom and daughter-in-law Sian, explained: “My mum was a nurse, my aunt was a nurse and my sister was a nurse so I know the dedication and selfless effort they make for their patients, and seeing that video really made the whole family want to help.
“Obviously Trefloyne has been closed due to the current situation, but when we suggested we could help NHS staff by cooking for them, our chefs Pip Christopher and Dave Whittle were quick to offer their help. Last Tuesday we started preparing and cooking and on Wednesday we were delivering 80 ready meals to Tenby Ambulance Station, Tenby Surgery, Tenby Hospital and The Glen Pharmacy.
"We all know the huge pressure the NHS is under at the moment and if we can do just a little to help we will – staff are working through their breaks so we have made meals they can quickly warm in the microwave.”
South Pembrokeshire Hospital will be included in Trefloyne’s next delivery and with offers of help from other Tenby restaurants, cafes and businesses they hope to expand the numbers next week.
Joan was quick to offer thanks to Andrew Rees of Narberth for the meat donation, Andrew and Sarah at Park Road Fish & Chips for the potatoes and Mel Lewis for her lovely cakes.
“We are a local family runnning local businesses, and of course have had to use the NHS over the years. We needed them and now they need us so thank you NHS Pembrokeshire,” she continued.
“As I have to self isolate I want to thank Kim, Tom, Sian and Dewi for putting this emotional idea into practice”
