The Carmarthen Antiques and Flea Market, south Wales’ biggest antiques and collectables event, is back on Sunday, April 15. With up to 200 stands inside and out on Carmarthen’s showground no other event in the region rivals it if you’re looking for a few hours of treasure hunting!

From ceramics to vintage clothes and jewellery, Welsh country furniture and highly collectable children’s toys, to unusual decorative items, military memorabilia and pieces that are prime for some ‘upcycling’, there simply is no better event.

Fair organisers Robert and Carol Pugh are celebrating 25 years of organising antiques events at the showground this year and are thrilled that the Flea is going from strength to strength. Their fairs not only continue to attract discerning antiques enthusiasts from Wales and beyond but a new generation of ‘vintage fans’ are boosting visitor numbers.

Robert Pugh said: “There are now dozens of books and magazine titles devoted to what’s become known as ‘Flea Market Style’ and along with a huge community of online devotees of all things vintage we’re thrilled to be attracting such a wide audience to the Carmarthen Antiques and Flea Market.”

Carol Pugh added: “There is no doubt there’s now a younger audience for antique and vintage pieces. On Instagram alone, there are over a million posts tagged #fleamarket and hundreds of thousands more tagged #fleamarketstyle and #fleamarketfinds. I’m sure initially people are looking for ways to make their homes ‘stand out from the crowd’ but soon go on to realise the merits of buying furniture of a quality you rarely see at these prices anymore.”

The Carmarthen Antiques and Flea Market isn’t just a place to visit if you’re looking for pieces for your home. At the next event on Sunday, April 15 amongst the more unusual items offered for sale will be a blazer worn by Welsh rugby legend Phil Bennett during Llanelli’s tour of South Africa in 1972. This was of course the same year during which Llanelli famously beat the All Blacks 9 points to 3 in what’s been called the greatest upset in club rugby.

The Carmarthen Antiques and Flea Market, runs between 10 am and 4 pm on Sunday, April 15. Admission is £4.50 for adults with accompanied children admitted free of charge. Well behaved dogs kept on a lead are welcome.
