For the second time in a month, Milford Haven Port Authority has made a prosecution against the master of a vessel following the use of equipment that poses a significant risk of injury.

Weighted heaving lines, which are lines thrown ashore whilst berthing that have infill of metal and like objects, are prohibited at the Port of Milford Haven and indeed at most UK ports.

On Monday, November 19, the master of the LPG tanker 'Brovig Barat' was sentenced at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to the offence. He was fined £1,500 with £600 costs and £15 victim surcharge.

Harbourmaster, Captain Bill Hirst commented: "Safety is our highest priority at the Port. We will always seek to educate and inform in the first instance; however, where our advice is not heeded, we do have the option to prosecute offenders who violate byelaws that exist to ensure safe navigation and personal safety for all users of the Port."
