Visitors to Tenby will have a special weekend welcome at the town’s train station over the summer season - as each Saturday (with approval from the Tenby Town Council), arrivals at the facility will be greeted by the town crier, Jim Cornwell.

But instead of the usual ‘Oyez Oyez’ and traditional bell ringing, visitors will receive a smile, a friendly wave and a ‘ hello – welcome to Tenby’ message.

Unfortunately, current Covid-19 rules restrict what the town crier can do, which means no crowd gathering, loud shouting or bell ringing, but Clr. Cornwell decided to undertake this task by staging a welcome gesture to greet those who travelled here by train.

“Not everyone comes to Tenby by bus, coach and car - even those who come into the town to work appreciated the friendly welcome,” he remarked.

“Many of the town’s attractions are not happening this year, due to Covid-19 rules; and as visitors might get the wrong impression, I thought I would make this small gesture to help brighten peoples’ day.”
