Sir,
May I, through your newspaper, thank all those organisations and individuals for ensuring that the 2016 Saundersfoot New Year’s Day Swim not only went ahead, but ranked as one of the very best.
All the lifeguards, along with members of Tenby Surf and Rescue Club, deserve praise for assessing the situation in a calm and professional way to ensure the safety of the swimmers.
On land, we thank Tenby Fire Brigade, Saundersfoot Harbour Commissioners and staff, St. John’s and the Wales Ambulance Service, together with HM Coastguard for their expertise and support.
We are blessed with committed stewards, bucket collectors, beach cleaners, as well as individuals such as Kerrie Moran-Morris, for ‘warming up’ the swimmers, and Kevin Lloyd, for his commentary.
All the above made a significant contribution to ensure a most successful swim.
Having climbed Everest and walked to the North Pole, Tori James would have found the elements almost pleasant. She started the event by waving the swim flag and charging into the sea, as if to battle, followed by over 1,600 ‘dervishes.’
I thank these swimmers for their co-operation, courage and commitment to their nominated charity.
Any groups who competed are asked to contact myself on (01834) 813039, in order to receive a certificate.
Finally, sincere thanks to the thousands of spectators who attended, making the whole event a fantastic spectacle.
Martyn Williams
Chairman,
NYDS.
