NFU Mutual Agents and their staff at the local Pembroke Agency recently nominated local charity Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru to receive a donation of £3,225.81 from a national £2million ‘Agency Giving Fund’ launched by NFU Mutual.
In light of the national emergency our country is continuing to face, NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer, announced this £2million fund in February to help local frontline charities during 2021. This follows £1million of support delivered by NFU Mutual’s Agency Giving Fund in 2020, which helped charities across many sectors to keep their life-changing services going throughout the pandemic.
To ensure these donations reach all corners of the UK and are directed where they are needed most, NFU Mutual’s Agents, with over 300 offices nationwide, have been given the opportunity to nominate local charities to receive a share of the fund.
This donation has enabled Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru to help support services in the county of Pembrokeshire.
Ruth Webb stated in a letter to the NFU Mutual Office in Pembroke: “It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I write to thank you for your generous donation to the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru. We are not a well-funded charity, and your financial gift of £3,225.81 will make a huge difference in the work that we can do now and in the future. We continue to support the urological surgeons and specialist nurses that cover our area.
“When Covid releases its grip on society we shall be able to go around with our Information and Support Seminars and look forward to liaising with you regarding a ‘chat’ at one of your NFU County meetings.
“Men can be notoriously cagey about health issues, but knowing the facts is important. Everyone is encouraged to attend the talks, whatever age, men and women. Men learn about the risk and what action to take if worried about a prostate problem, women and younger staff get the vital information to pass on to family and friends who need to know the facts. By the end of the talk, employees will be better able to understand the level of risk, the importance of regular health checks and the early symptoms to look out for.
“One in eight men in Wales will have prostate problems.
“One in three men are likely to have prostate cancer if there is a close family connection with prostate cancer, e.g. father, uncle, grandfather, brother, son, grandson, nephew.
“Words do not seem enough to say how much we appreciate your support, both regarding words and money. Everyone here at the Pembrokeshire Friends appreciate your donation and continued support.”
Paula Robins, NFU Mutual assistant agent at Pembroke Office, said: “Covid-19 continues to have a huge impact on everybody, including our customers and their local communities. Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru has been making a wonderful difference to our community during these challenging times, and we feel extremely proud to hear how our support has made an impact.”
