A GENEROUS donation worth £2,200 has been made to Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen, in memory of a dear friend.

Rachel Price raised the fantastic amount by hosting a Bingo Lingo charity night, with proceeds going to the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital.

The charity night was held in memory of Rachel’s friend Sian Axford, who worked as a teacher in a Carmarthen primary school. Sian died in August 2021 at the age of 48. She had been receiving treatment at the Chemotherapy Day Unit before she died.

The event was held in October 2025 and was very well attended. Tickets were sold out within days, which Rachel said, “showed how deeply loved Sian was”.

And Rachel was grateful for the huge turnout and support, thanking everyone who donated raffle prizes.

“A massive thank you to Carmarthen Athletic Club for providing the venue and keeping the drinks flowing throughout the night. A special mention to Chris Roly for providing fantastic entertainment and for also donating to our charitable cause,” she added. “Thanks to the kindness, generosity, and support of everyone involved, we managed to raise an incredible £2,200 for the unit. ”

Senior Sister Jessica Michael commented: “On behalf of the staff and patients at the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital, I would like to thank you for your fundraising efforts resulting in a very generous donation of £2,200.

“We are always looking at ways to improve the environment and improve the way we care for patients within the Chemotherapy Day Unit. Please be assured that this money will go towards this improvement.”
