If you imagine Llangwm Literary Festival is just for adults, think again!
“We have more events for children at the litfest this year,” says Michael Pugh, director of the festival that takes place in the Pembrokeshire village from August 8-10, adding: “We have not had to look far to find amazing Welsh writers for our children’s events.”
Retired school-teacher John Roach is kicking things off with a heart-warming creative skills session on the origins of the Red Dragon in Wales.
Jack Meggitt-Phillips returns to Llangwm this year with The Beast and The Bethany. The Cardiff author will be running a workshop for children and also a session for the wider community on Sunday, August 10 in which he’ll explore the secrets of forging a successful writer of children’s books.
Saturday, August 9 will see a Philosophy, Storytelling and Art session run by Beth Mackintosh and best-selling nature books author Gill Lewis. After that, the Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park team is coming to the litfest for the first time with children’s sessions in a magical biofluorescence dome - the closest you get to visiting another planet.
Matters become a little more serious on Saturday afternoon with founder of Lie Detectors, Juliane von Reppert-Bismarck, running a session for children on being media-wise and spotting fake news.
There are also events for both adults and children, such as foraging with Really Wild Julia, Angharad on her award-winning preserving business with tastings of lemon curd, and Ryan’s Triple C project, which explores ways to break down the barriers that stop people from doing things. Topping the bill on Sunday is Pembrokeshire’s Cruising Free Rowing team, back from their trip across the Atlantic with tales of adventure on the high seas.
