NEW Hedges WI President Ann Maggs welcomed everyone to the meeting on a very hot summer’s day. First on the programme was a demonstration of summer mocktails.
Three very diverse non-alcoholic drinks were concocted by Pat Hemsley and Frances Phillips. Amid a sea of cucumber, orange, lemon, blueberries, mint and crushed ice, emerged a jug of Mojito, one of an apple and elderflower cooler and further one of Pimm’s. These were all sampled with gusto in a variety of heirloom cocktail glasses, and pronounced delicious.
After the demonstration, the members got down to business. The County Newsletter was reviewed, and the members reminded of the picking up points for next week’s Cardigan trip. Progress on all three subgroups was commented upon and the competition ‘A Special Keepsake’ judged. The winner was Vena Davies.
In the social time that followed, Barbara Poole quizzed the ladies on the names of drinks.
Chris Blundell gave a vote of thanks to the committee for putting together such a pleasant afternoon.
There will be no meeting in August: the WI will resume on September 10, 2pm in New Hedges Village Hall with a talk on Textile Jewellery. All are welcome.
