The Torch Theatre in Milford Haven has received a welcome boost following the appointment of Benjamin Lloyd.

Mr Lloyd will be joining the Torch Theatre as their new Executive Director, following five years at the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse theatres where he is currently producer.

Having managed the artistic programme to new commercial and artistic successes, Mr. Lloyd has worked with many of the UK’s leading theatrical producers from Headlong and the National Theatre to Shakespeare’s Globe and National Theatre Wales.

His work as producer has included the UK premiere of Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville (recently on tour in China) and the world premiere of Spymonkey’s A Christmas Carol; as Associate Producer, world premieres of both Mouse by Daniel Kitson and I Am Thomas from Told by an Idiot & National Theatre Scotland; and as part of a consortium of Northern theatres, the UK premiere tour of The Suitcase from Market Theatre, Johannesburg as part of Hull City of Culture 2017.

In this new role at the Torch Theatre, Mr. Lloyd will work alongside the Torch Theatre’s Artistic Director, Peter Doran, and the board of trustees to continue to build and develop the theatre’s artistic and commercial strategic objectives.

Peter Doran on Ben’s appointment said: "We are all looking forward to Ben arriving and working with the team, it’s the start of a new chapter for the Torch Theatre and with Ben’s pedigree we are confident the future will be a bright one."

Born in Carmarthen and raised in Newcastle Emlyn, as a child Ben spent weekends with his grandparents in Honeyborough Green, Neyland and feels a deep sense of pride for and affinity with The Torch and the people of Pembrokeshire.

Ben added: “I am privileged and excited to take up the role of Executive Director at the Torch Theatre. It is a genuine thrill to be ‘coming home’ to South West Wales to lead the Torch’s dedicated team.

“The theatre is a precious resource within the local community and the arts ecology in Wales and I am looking forward to working with Peter and the Board to build on its rich history and to extend the Torch’s reach and influence within Wales and beyond.”

Ben Lloyd will commence his new role at the Torch Theatre in late January 2020.
