A student from Kilgetty who crashed his car whilst over the limit the morning after he had been out socialising, has been handed a lengthy motoring ban in court, after admitting a drink-drive offence.

Twenty-two-year-old Dylan Price, of Cold Inn, now living at Park Place in Cardiff, where he is studying, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of driving his Seat Ibiza on the B4316 Station Road, in Pentlepoir, after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his blood - namely 157 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, exceeded the prescribed limit.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that shortly after 6.30 am on August 15, police officers received a phone call to stated that a road traffic collision had occurred in the Pentlepoir area.

“Mr. Price was the driver, and when officers arrived on the scene, he smelt of alcohol.

“The defendant told officers that his last drink had been a pint of shandy at 11 pm the previous night, but a roadside breath test proved positive, and as he was still dazed and confused from the RTC, Mr. Price was taken to hospital where a blood sample was taken,” she said.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that it had been a complete ‘error of judgement’ on behalf of his client to drive his car that next morning.

“He had been out socialising with friends, and thought that he had slept it off. The road from the Ridegway heading to Pentlepoir is well renowned as difficult and dangerous to manoeuvre. This was a complete one-off from Mr. Price and an error of judgement, which saw his car written off.”

Magistrates handed Mr. Price a 22 month driving disqualification and fined him £120 for the offence.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £32 victim surcharge.
