A motorist leaving the Wiseman’s Bridge area discovered to be over the alcohol limit has been handed a driving ban in court.
Sixty-three-year-old Geoffrey Fehners, of Traston Avenue, Newport, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with driving his BMW on an unclassified road between Wiseman’s Bridge and Summerhill, after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion in his breath was 42 microgrammes in 100 millilitres, after he was arrested following a positive roadside test.
Prosecutor Dennis Davies told the court that police on patrol stopped Mr. Fehners in his vehicle shortly after 10.30 pm on November 6, after he left the Wiseman’s Bridge area, heading towards a caravan site further up the road.
Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that it was always difficult when a person of previous clean character comes before the court for such matters and loses their licence.
“He was staying in the Wiseman’s Bridge area and had been to the local Inn, and mistimed his calculations, as had he waited another half an hour, he might have been under the limit.
“A driving ban will cause the defendant and his wife difficulty as their son suffers from learning difficulties and it will put more on the shoulders of Mrs. Fehners to transport him around,” added Mr. Webb.
Magistrates disqualified Mr. Fehners from driving for 12 months and fined him £320 for the offence.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £32 victim surcharge.
