A Milford motorist has been fined after admitting a speeding charge in court.

Twenty-year-old Samuel Harding, of Wentworth Close, Hubberston, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to make a statutory declaration, after being convicted in his absence for the offence, after previously failing to respond to a charge of doing 44 mph in a 30 mph zone on his Yamaha MT motorbike on Carmarthen Road in Swansea on March 28.

The defendant admitted the offence in court, and explained to magistrates that he had not received the details of the charge to his home address, and was unaware that court proceedings against him were due to take place against him at Cardiff Magistrates Court.

He said that it was only when he received notification through the post to say that he had been fined over £800 for the offence in his absence that he realised that there was a charge against him for speeding.

Mr. Harding told magistrates that he had been ’stupid’ when riding his motorbike and ‘wasn’t paying attention’ at the time when clocked speeding.

He explained that he had since gotten rid of the motorbike and was in the process of getting his driver’s licence.

Magistrates fined him £184 for the offence, and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.

His driving record was also endorsed with 4 points.
