A Swansea man who was found asleep in a Tenby hotel room, after his friends reported him missing, appeared in court this week charged with possessing cocaine.
Thirty-three-year-old Scott Mardon, of Heol Newydd, pleaded guilty to possessing 0.54 grammes of cocaine, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court how police officers were dispatched in relation to reports of a missing person on September 5, and conducted a search in Tenby for Mr. Mardon.
“When visiting a guest house in the town where Mr. Mardon was believed to have been staying, officers gave a description to the owners, who said that he had returned stumbling about and seemed to have had a lot to drink,” she said.
Officers went to the room and woke up Mr. Mardon, and whilst there found a bag containing white powder in his room, which he admitted was cocaine and said was his.
“It seems that Mr. Mardon had started drinking in Swansea that day, as he was out for a friend’s birthday and got off on a train to Tenby,” continued Ms Morgan.
“He has some previous convictions, and a previous caution for possessing cocaine,” she added.
Mr. Mardon’s solicitor, Mr. Mike Kelleher, told the court that the defendant had been out with friends at a party which had moved on to Tenby, where they had booked accommodation.
“His friends lost him and thought he was missing, but actually he’d been asleep in the guest house for two hours!” he said.
“He was no trouble to anybody, and fully co-operated with police, going as far to say when, where and from whom he purchased the cocaine,” added Mr. Kelleher.
Magistrates fined Mr. Mardon £145 and ordered him to pay costs of £85, a £20 victim surcharge and a court charge of £180. They also ordered the destruction of the drugs.
