A Milford man caught with cannabis in his rucksack has been fined in court.
Twenty-five-year-old Cornelius James Harteveldt, of Richard John Road, pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing 3 grammes of cannabis when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones told the court that police officers attended the address on an unrelated incident on April 23. The defendant’s rucksack was searched and the cannabis was found inside.
“Mr. Harteveldt was arrested and made a full admission, that the drug was for his own personal use,” he told magistrates.
Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that his client suffered with ADHD and takes cannabis to help him sleep.
“He doesn’t take it in his parents’ house, but goes down a lane. The cannabis helps him sleep and he only takes it at night for that purpose,” he explained.
The court heard that Mr. Harteveldt was currently subject to a conditional discharge due to a conviction for being drunk and disorderly.
Magistrates elected to let the conditional discharge run and fined the defendant £80 for this offence.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
