A Neyland motorist who was spotted by police swerving from side to side, with no headlights on, has been banned from getting behind the wheel of a vehicle for 20 months after admitting a drink-driving charge in court.
Twenty-two-year-old Shannon Elizabeth Lewis, of Honeyborough Grove, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of driving her Ford Fiesta after exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit.
Prosecutor Sophie Hill told the court that police officers on duty in an unmarked vehicle saw Miss Lewis driving towards them on the Neyland road shortly before 11 pm on January 12, with no headlights on.
“Her vehicle was swerving from side to side, and eventually came to an abrupt halt on School Lane, after officers had followed it,” she said.
The court heard how after a roadside test proved positive, Miss Lewis gave a reading of 84 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath at the police station following her arrest.
Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that Miss Lewis who worked as a dental nurse, took the fatal decision to drive that night.
“She thought she would be ok to drive, but clearly wasn’t. It has been a very sobering experience for her, as she has never been to court before,” he continued.
Magistrates handed Miss Lewis a 20 month driving disqualification and a fine of £190.
She was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
