A holidaymaker from Shropshire has admitted a drink-driving offence in court after being stopped in his vehicle in Tenby.

Thirty-nine-year-old Robert Frank Jones, of Clungunford, pleaded guilty to driving his Vauxhall Corsa, on Marsh Road, in Tenby, after exceeding the prescribed limit of alcohol, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told magistrates that a reading of 51 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath was recorded after Mr. Jones’s arrest.

“On July 29, police officers on duty in Tenby in an unmarked vehicle had their attention drawn to Mr. Jones’s vehicle opposite the entrance to Greenhill School on Marsh Road.

“When they spoke to the driver, whose appearance was effected by alcohol, he was asked if he’d been drinking and said ‘Yes, I have’, before he provided a positive roadside test,” Ms Morgan told the court.

Defence solicitor Stacey Holmes said that it had been the first day of Mr. Jones’s holiday in Tenby, and that he’d consumed five or six lagers over a three to four-hour period.

“He’d driven to collect a few items from the shop. Mr. Jones describes it as the biggest regret of his life, and is deeply sorry for his actions,” added Ms Holmes.

Magistrates disqualified Mr. Jones from driving for 12 months and fined him £120 for the offence.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
