Club Sailing
Saturday’s two races run by Alastair Knibb drew a fleet of five boats on a cloudy but dry evening, with a mid-range north-westerly blowing.
The Osprey of Ted/Lucas won both, in the first followed by juniors Ioan and Oscar in a Feva, then Mike/Deanna in a Redwing and Igor in a Laser. In the second race, Mike/Deanna were second from Ioan/Oscar, Igor, then Alex in his Redwing
Six boats turned out for Tuesday evening’s race on a sunny and bright August evening. A declining south-westerly breeze provided an upwind leg towards Giltar, a reach towards the Eastern and back to the start.
The Scorpion of Peter/Igor picked the shifts well and took the race on corrected time, from the Osprey of Ted and guest crew Jo and then the RS200 of Dan/Scarlett, followed by Mike/Deanna in their Redwing, Richard in a club Laser and John in the Comet.
Junior sailing
Junior training as usual next week, but please note no training on Wednesday, Aug ust 23, due to the RS200 championships at Tenby. Training as usual in September.
Last week there were light winds, very suitable for the beginners. The more experienced were given a supervised sail to Monkstone.
All returned to enjoy the BBQ, this week provided by Erik. Many thanks for stepping in for the job.
Cruiser racing
The weather last Friday evening resulted in a prolonged discussion, but eventually it was decided to go ahead, despite the strong winds and light rain. This proved to be a bad decision for the crew of Slipstream, who ended up having an unplanned swim just off the Mayor’s Slip. No harm done, except to hope there were no videos or CCTV to record the incident! The other competitors wisely decided to jump ship and cancel the race.
Next race tomorrow (Saturday) at 15.15. See you there all dried out!
