Regatta
The Club Regatta and Round Caldey Island race are scheduled for June 24 and 25, once again kindly sponsored by local solicitors Lewis Lewis and Co. Ltd. Three races in the bay on Saturday, then the Round Caldey race on Sunday, culminating in a prize-giving on Sunday afternoon and the awarding of the team prize of £500. Get your team organised and come and have a go! As ever, volunteers are needed to run the event; if you would like to help, please email Ted Lewis on [email protected] .
Club Sailing
It was too windy and murky for club sailing on Saturday, but the opposite on Tuesday evening when nine boats put to sea for the scheduled club race. The sun came out, the wind declined and it was a beautiful summer’s evening.
Unfortunately the wind kept on declining. Those who launched early reached the race area, but the two club Lasers and Jo in her RS100 found too little wind to even reach the course!
Four Ospreys, a Scorpion and a Comet did, though, and the race was on. Carwyn, running the race, set a small course and the six boats drifted slowly around it for one lap. Happily it was nearing high tide, so its effect was minimal.
Peter/Igor in the Scorpion gave a masterclass in light wind sailing, picking up the slightest zephyr and putting the faster Ospreys to shame. They were first around the course and won comfortably, from Ted/Lucas, then Dianna/Mike. John in his Comet kept up well and took fourth, with the other two Ospreys of Jaime/Eric and Dyfan/Steve bringing up the rear.
Junior report
Another evening on shore due to the weather. However, the opportunity was taken to catch up on the theory bits of the various stages. Hoping for better this week.
Cruiser race
This was also a victim of the weather. Force 5-7 poor visibility meant the bar was far safer.
Next race Sunday, 11.15 am. Don’t forget the Round Caldey race on Sunday, June 25.
We have now rearranged the race training day for Saturday, July 1, 9 am to 4.30 pm. Those who booked a place on the previous cancelled day can have their entry carried forward.
Membership renewal
Renewals were due in January. Any members who have not renewed by now are advised that access fobs will be de-activated at the end of this month; if you wish to preserve your access please renew promptly.
