Last Thursday saw the annual Finals Night and Presentation take place at Narberth RFC.

Just four finals were played on this night. First off saw Lois Howlett Dyer from the Greenbridge beat county team friend Lynette Parry from the Snooty Fox by 3-0.

The Under 25s could have gone either way, with Craig Jones from the Dragon taking a 2-0 lead, but losing out by 3-2 to consistent Marc Thomas from Kilgetty RAOB.

The team knockout saw a replay of last year’s final, with the outcome being the same with a 5-2 win for the Alpha over the Bush Robeston.

The singles saw regular finalist Neil Thomas from Narberth RAOB take on Alan Luke, Dragon A, in his first singles final. With Neil taking a 4-1 lead, it looked all but over, but two hours later, somehow Alan clawed it back to win the match 5-4. Many thanks to Matthew ‘Titch’ Davies who was referee for all the legs, an accomplishment in itself, as both players provided a methodical approach to the game.

Other finals played previously saw Neil making amends by winning the over 40s over Steven Pallas (Narberth RAOB) by 3-2 and also the doubles by 4-3 with partner David Lewis over Mike and Rhydian Williams (Bush Rob).

The captains saw a comprehensive 3-0 win for Ben James (Whitland AFC) over Jonathan Bowen (Dragon A). The triples was an all Dragon affair with the A’s of Alan, Steff and Will winning 5-1 over the B team of Craig, Matthew and Steve. The landlords saw Steve Pallas beating Ann Marie Owen (Greenbridge) by 3-1.

While the ‘Andrew Lewis Memorial Cup’ was won by Alan Luke (top A player) over Barry Powney (Narberth RAOB B) by 2-0.

Well done to the Station House and Narberth RAOB B on winning their respective leagues.

Looking forward to a summer break now and see you all in August for the annual general meeting.

Footnote: Next Thursday, May 5, the Masters top 32 players takes place at the Alpha and Narberth RAOB, with a 7.30 pm start. The eight group winners qualify to play at Narberth RAOB on May 12.
