The first competition of 2018, on January 4, was marred by the wintry weather conditions, which resulted in only six ladies entering the 15-hole stableford.
From what I was told, some of those who went out wished they hadn’t bothered and headed in early. The best scores came from Sue Ensor on 19 points, Anna Hubbard second on 22 and Heather Morgan top with 25.
Seventeen ladies took part in the club ‘Three Clubs and a Putter’ competition on Saturday, January 6, with Carol Beecher notching the best female score with 25 points, but unfortunately didn’t feature in any prizes.
Last Thursday, there was a GUW Medal and a nine-hole stableford contest. Eleven medal cards were processed, with the winner of the medal being Denise Edwards, beating Carol Beecher on countback after both recorded a nett 77, with third place going to Rita Collins with a 79. Denise recorded the only two of the day on the sixth hole.
The nine-hole contest was won by Gill John with 19 points (to cut her handicap by 0.4), with second place going to Louise Hill on 16 and Sue Ensor not far behind on 15.
The Ladies Section were pleased to learn that Tenby member Bethan Morris was representing Wales at the South American Amateur Competition at Martindale Country Club, Buenos Aires, Argentina, from January 13 - 16, a competition she came fourth in last year. Bethan is currently the number one ranked Welsh woman amateur glfer.
On Monday, immediate past lady captain, Linda Thomas, presented a cheque for £700 to Gillian Reason-Jones, Life After Stroke co-ordinator, a representative of Linda’s chosen charity - the Stroke Association. This money was raised during various fund-raising events throughout Linda’s year of office.
