Congratulations to our director of golf, Oliver Duckett PGA, who last Friday was selected as a finalist in the Coach of the Year category at the 2015 Sport Pembrokeshire Awards.

With over 20 nominations in this category, Oliver managed to get down to the final three for his work with vulnerable children and juniors with learning difficulties.

Oliver’s outreach programmes over the last three years, coupled with his primary school and secondary school coaching, have seen over 1,000 children introduced to golf this year alone.

Along with representatives from the club, Oliver attended a fantastic awards evening at Folly Farm with over 600 guests and fellow nominees.

Although he did not take home the top award, Oliver had the following to say: “It’s a real privilege to be nominated for such a prestigious award. The children that we provide coaching for often come from very difficult backgrounds and it’s fantastic that golf can offer them an escape and an opportunity to channel their efforts in a different way to their every day school lives.

“It is my goal to make sure every child in the county and eventually the country has access to at least one hour of golf coaching during their weekly school timetable.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Trefloyne Manor, Alan Jones at Sport Pembrokeshire and Golf Development Wales for their continued support.”

Should you know of anyone who you feel would benefit from one of Ollie’s inclusive coaching programmes, give him a call on 01834 845639.
