Playing from our new winter tee on the 6th, Helen Hughes christened it with a hole-in-one last Thursday.

At the time, she was playing in the ladies’ stableford competition with Kasumi Tran and Rebecca Naden.

After a traditional celebratory drink in the clubhouse, however, the results showed that the excitement had taken its toll on Helen’s scores on the subsequent holes on this occasion!

Sue Griffiths came in with a winning 40 points, followed by Kasumi, one of our promising juniors, with 37.

Many congratulations to Helen, this was her first hole-in-one and it surely it won’t be her last as she’s already dropped her handicap from 24 to 21 this year.

• Two days later there were more hole-in-one celebrations at the club when John Stenson canned his tee-shot on the last in the annual Burleigh Leach competition. On this occasion, the ‘last’ was not the normal par four on the course, but a short hole from the ladies’ tee to the 18th green
