Tenby AFC held its Junior and Mini presentation night recently at the De Valance Pavilion, the 10th year at the venue, and would like to thank the Tenby Town Council for allowing them to do so. Personal thanks to the Mayor, Clr. Sue Lane, Clr. Chris Brown, Andrew Davies and the staff of the De Valance for all their help prior to and during the evening.
Luke Lawrence, chairman of Tenby AFC, was the MC for the evening and he opened the proceedings by firstly thanking Andrew Price, the club’s main sponsor, who’s continued financial support over the years has helped make Tenby AFC the success it is today. He went on to thank all the individual team kit sponsors, the ground advertising board sponsors and the many business and individuals that have contributed to the club this year. He also thanked the Tenby Observer, who allows the club the space each week to report on every club match. The club greatly appreciates all your help.
Luke commented that it has been another great season; the Mini section is thriving with an abundance of eager, skillful players. The Juniors have done remarkable well too, with three out of the five teams winning silverware.
The Under 12s won their Cup final 8-2 and were runners-up in their League, scoring a huge total of 344 goals. The Under 15s were runners-up in their League, while the Under 16s won their respective Leagues and reached the semi-final of both the Pembrokeshire and West Wales Cups. However, the performance of the season was the Under 14s who did the domestic League and Cup double, winning every game, as well as reaching the West Wales Cup semi-final.
All this success is mainly due to the excellent coaching staff that the club has, which was responded with a loud round of applause. Obviously, they can’t do it without the commitment and dedication of all the players and the assistance and loyalty from the parents. Thank you all for making it a truly exceptional year once again.
The club made presentations to Anne, Megan and Pete who man the Wags Café every Saturday, to the Tenby Mayor, Clr. Sue Lane, and to stalwart, Angie Nicholls, who this year completed 37 years with Tenby AFC and was also recognised by the Football Association of Wales (FAW) for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Once all the teams, from Under 6s to 16s, had been paraded on to the stage, Luke then had the pleasure of introducing the Mayor who would make the presentations. Firstly, the Mayor presented Tenby Town Council framed certificates to seven players who been selected for the Swansea City FC Development Squad. They were Blake Ryder, Max Howells, Ryan Douglas-Law, Jack Cole, Ted Griffiths, Ryan Robertson and Charlie Craig. Carter Heywood was presented with a certificate as he had signed for Swansea City this season.
