There were a couple of shocks and a couple of hammerings in the latest round of the Manderwood Pembrokeshire AFL and none of the shocks were bigger than at Carew after the Rooks lost their first game of the season.
St. Clears were the visitors and arrived at the ground with one win from four while Carew had every intention of keeping their 100 per cent record intact.
It didn’t happen. Carew conceded a goal after 30 minutes and then another just after the oranges when Tristan Hancock added to Josh Jones’ earlier strike.
Carew composed themselves and showed the Saints just how good they are to equalise through Lloyd Hughes and Jordan Richards but then with 20 minutes to go, St Clears got on top once again and didn’t let it slip.
Steve Thomas headed one home before Hancock added another to ensure a famous win that ensured they keep a mid-table position while Carew slip down to third.
The first of the week’s hammerings came at Lamphey were the Stags were mauled by a flock of Swifts.
Monkton showed no mercy on the hosts as they slammed 11 goals passed them although the home team did grab two of their own.
Mike Davies and Gareth Richards scored for the home team while James Russell hit four for the visitors, Shaun Jones two with the others coming from Dylan Davies, Ben Steel, Blake James, Tom Powell and Ryan Griffiths.
Saundersfoot continued their impressive start to the season with a workmanlike 2-0 win over Narberth, Chris Millward and Ryan Howells scoring their goals while in division two, Hundleton lost 6-0 to high flying Johnston.
Kilgetty drew 1-1 at home to Hakin United seconds however Lawrenny didn’t fare so well at home to Solva going down 3-2 despite Ryan Morton and Sam Davies scoring for them.
In division three, Pembroke Boro beat Clarbeston Road seconds 5-0 after a Jake Campbell hat-trick and two from Stewart Slater with Carew seconds winning by the same margin at Milford Athletic after an Adam Muskett hat-trick and one apiece from Sam Harts and Carl Thomas.
There were goals galore at Monkton as the home team’s seconds beat Pendine 10-5.
Liam Butland struck five for the winners and Jordan Kilby two with the other goals coming from Josh Sture, Rhys Davies and Luke Hendry.
Narberth seconds picked up their third win of the season beating Solva seconds 2-1 after goals from Josh Layzell and Bruce Phillips while Pennar seconds beat St Clears’ seconds 4-0 after a Rhys Sture brace and goals from Jack Sullivan and Jack Phillips.
St Florence meanwhile lost 2-1 at home to Fishguard Sports’ seconds, Ashley Smith scoring their only goal.
In division four, Hundleton seconds had a good win at home to their counterparts from St Ishmaels winning 4-3.
Connor Haye scored twice with Alex Haye and Louis Barnikel adding the others.
Pennar Robins’ thirds had a 2-1 home win over Kilgetty seconds with goals from Marco Valentine and Jamie Groves, Jack Waters scoring for the visitors.
A win too for Carew thirds winning 1-0 at home to Newport Tigers thanks to a Sam Lewis goal.
Monkton thirds beat the league’s other Tigers with a 2-1 in over Johnston seconds thanks to goals from James Potter and Jordan Boswell while Saundersfoot Sports’ seconds beat Milford Athletic seconds 5-0 after goals from Nathan Owen, Adam Davidson, George McBeth and two from James Richards.
Tenby continue to dominate division five winning 9-1 against Lawrenny whose only goal came from James Buckle while Tenby’s came from Mike Ryer, Cameron Ennis, five from Jerome Mansbridge and two from his brother Daryl.
