On Monday, September 3, the Vagrants Crew returned home after their appearance at the Slag op de Wiede festival in Holland. The 'Captain' Peter Pearce said: "It was a wonderful experience as we spent most of the time singing and playing on canal boats and on an island in the middle of a large lake where the audience were all on the water, in boats of all shapes and sizes!
"On our arrival and throughout the festival we were treated with great warmth, kindness and enthusiasm, a welcome, for which we cannot thank the people of Giethoorn enough. Would we like to go back next year? If invited, a definite yes!"
Once again, many thanks to those who made this trip possible. Pembroke Dock is definitely on the map in Holland!
However, on the following Friday, the Crew were once again on the road to take part in the three-day Bromyard Folk Festival, where they played at various venues and co-hosted the Shanty and Big Sing sessions.
It has been a very busy but rewarding year for the group, not to mention extremely successful, and they are even now planning for next year, having already received invitations for the Falmouth and Burnham on Sea Festivals.
The Crew also run the local Friday Night Folk Club which, until now, has been held in the Flying Boat Inn, but has been temporarily moved to the Naval Club as the landlord Colin Edwards will be recuperating from a surgical operation for some months. We all wish him all the very best and a speedy recovery.
