Ty Hafan is set to make a return to Tenby this weekend as the children’s charity opens its shops doors for one last time.
On Saturday (November 28), the children’s hospice will be selling Christmas Cards, gifts, Christmas raffle tickets and homemade crafts created by its volunteers, and will also be encouraging supporters to get involved in its ‘Christmas Star’ initiative.
This comes after Ty Hafan made the incredibly difficult decision to close its shop on Tenby’s high street, along with five other shops across Wales. This was due to the trading challenges posed by the pandemic which continue to be very difficult for us.
This year the charity expects to have a shortfall of almost £2 million in income due to the challenges of the pandemic but we continue to keep our doors open for the children and families who need us.
The Charity promised to remain a part of the Tenby community for years to come and wanted to honour the years of support the locals had given the hospice.
Ty Hafan’s head of retail, Laura James, said: “We are thrilled to announce our presence one last time at our Tenby shop this month.
“The town holds a special place in Ty Hafan’s heart and, despite our shop closing in July; we want everyone to remember that we are very much still here and want to continue to be part of the community.
“Tenby has seen much engagement from the local community since opening in 2015 and has helped raise vital funds to keep our hospice doors open, so we have a real bond with our volunteers and supporters in the area.”
Since 2015, the Tenby shop alone has contributed just over £100,000 towards expert care for life-limited children in Wales.
The Charity is currently supporting 14 children and families in the Pembrokeshire community, adapting the care it provides in the pandemic to be more community focused, including virtual therapy sessions provided by the hospice play team.
Ms James added: “We’re excited to return to Tenby with a little Christmas cheer and hope our loyal supporters can come and visit our stall to say hello and to help support the children and families in our care.”
Ty Hafan shop will be open from 9 am selling handcrafted gifts plus Christmas crafts and cards.
The Charity will also be offering locals the chance to purchase a personalised Christmas star that will be hung on the tree at the hospice, and then posted back to them in time to hang on their own tree for Christmas day.
