Works on Tenby’s St. George’s Street will come to a standstill once again to allow for the Bank Holiday.
Business owners along the street recently complained to the town council about the disruption the works have caused, pointing out that an estimated four weeks of works which started in January had turned into over 18 weeks, and were still no nearer completion.
After Western Power Distribution initially laid down underground electricity cables in January, Pembrokeshire County Council experienced delays in relaying the road surface.
The authority stated that laying a cobbled/paviour surface was a labour intensive, and time consuming process, and pointed out that as the condition of the sub-base was poorer than anticipated, it had meant additional reshaping and strengthening had been required.
“PCC are going to halt the works in St. George’s Street over the Bank Holiday, and they are on target to get to the Upper Frog Street junction by the middle of next week, but felt having the junction closed off for the Bank Holiday weekend, particularly with the Scooter Rally taking place, would not be a good idea,” the town clerk, Andrew Davies, explained after discussing the matter with councillors at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council.
“They plan to finish Thursday, May 3, and come back Tuesday, May 8.
“It does mean that they may miss their planned completion date, but the town council felt it was better to overrun,, rather than have that area closed off over the Bank Holiday,” he added.
