Despite there being a slight ease in Covid restrictions in Wales, Tenby Museum and Art Gallery is not planning to re-open before September.
Back at the beginning of the year when the Museum prepared some advertising, it was hoping that the premises would be ready by May but unfortunately due to the extended issues with museum’s reopening, this will now not be the case.
Chair of Trustees at Tenby Museum, Clr. Michael Williams said: “Currently the museum is in no position to re-open.
“We had the roof repaired last year thanks to Pembrokeshire County Council and this necessitated the dismantling of two galleries.
“These will be rebuilt once the upper floors have had a deep clean. We are also looking at ensuring the building is Covid secure for all our visitors, staff and volunteers and this includes a great deal of work, reviewing the layout, our working schedules and systems and overall design of the floor and exhibition spaces in line with national recommendations.
“We want the return to the museum to be as friendly, welcoming and safe as possible and therefore do not wish to rush into opening too soon.
“Full risk assessments will be carried out of individual spaces and over the next few months, as lockdown restrictions hopefully ease, we will be able to return to the building to bring all the necessary work together in readiness for September,” he continued.
“I appreciate that people are eager to get back to the museum and to once again enjoy cultural and heritage sites but when we do reopen we will be able to guarantee a safe and enjoyable experience.
“In the meantime we remain active, keeping the museum alive and afloat, protecting our collections and our staff, and working towards ensuring that we remain relevant during this extended period of closure.
“We will keep everyone posted of developments and hope to see you all soon,” he added.
