There was a good attendance last week for the judging of the third Open Competition.

Fourteen photographers entered their work to be considered with a pleasing and interesting range of topics.

Members welcomed WPF judge Leigh Woolford to take on the difficult task of critiquing and marking the images. Leigh gave a deceptively casual approach to his judging.

His relaxed style still packed a punch when necessary.

His comments were constructive and practical, showing where simple improvements could be made both in camera and post processing.

There were 18 prints entered, a wide range of wildlife photos but landscapes and portraits too.

Leigh found it difficult to choose the final placings but eventually gave 1st place to Neil Thomas, scoring 20/20, with ‘Osprey Homeward Bound’. 2nd place also with 20/20 was given to Cheryl Hewitt for her ‘Sanderling’.

In third spot with 19/20 was ‘The Jackal Returns’ by Jan Sullivan.

After the break, there were 26 digital entries with a full range of topics to be enjoyed. In 1st place with 20/20 was Roy Peters with a travel style image ‘On the way home’.

In 2nd also with 20/20 was Charlie Kidd with ‘Sparrowhawk with tail end’.

Third placing was given to Lizzie Wallis, 19/20 was scored for ‘Travelling in the doorway’.

Warm thanks were given to Leigh for his helpful advice and attention to detail.
