Recently, the Patient Participation Group (PPG) and staff of the Argyle Practice in Pembroke Dock held a cake sale at the surgery in aid of the charity Macmillan Cancer Support.
A variety of cakes and sponges made by staff, PPG members and patients went on sale at 10 am and such was the rush to buy, the event that was scheduled to last all day closed down just after lunch because all the cakes had been sold.
The magnificent sum of £565 was raised from the cake sale and this was further boosted by a very generous donation of £500, making a grand total of £1,065 for the charity.
Also on the day, the PPG committee invited Anthony Lorton (Macmillan Cancer Support information officer) and Owen Duggan (grants officer) to the surgery. During the day, they spoke to a number of patients and family members affected by cancer and were able to give advice on a number of cancer issues.
Chair of the PPG, Dennis Evans, thanked Juliet Goldsworthy (practice manager) for her help in organising the event and also thanked the staff and PPG members for making cakes and manning the stall throughout the day.
Seen receiving the cheque for £1,065 on behalf of the Pembrokeshire Macmillan Cancer Support committee is Monica Vanner, along with surgery staff Sarah Alford and Shona Hay, PPG members Eva Laugharne, Rose Blackburn and chair of the PPG, Dennis Evans.
PPG member Jane McNaughton was unable to appear in the photo, but gave valuable support on the day.
