'Strictly' came to Pembrokeshire recently when dancing couples from Dance Clubs across West Wales competed against each other for the benefit of charity.

Sequins, fancy footwork and free-flowing routines, it all happened when the Rotary Club of Milford Haven, in conjunction with Valero, staged their Strictly Charity Dancing event at the Cleddau Bridge Hotel.

MC for the evening and auctioneer was fellow Rotarian Brian Harries PHF from the neighbouring Haverfordwest club, with prizes presented by Jim Hughes from Radio Pembrokeshire.

Two separate knockout competitions, one for mixed couples and another for ladies, resulted in nailbiting finishes, with the audience glued to the scoreboard as first the judges and then the audience scored each couple's performance in the grand final.

Phillip Evans, the Welsh Closed Champion for Ballroom and Latin, gave an inspirational set of demonstration dances with four different partners, which was followed by a charity auction. As a result of the generosity of the audience at both the auction and the raffle, a goodly sum was raised for the Pembrokeshire Sibling Group and Barnardos Pembrokeshire Family Link.

The star item in the auction was a personal guided tour of the Palace of Westminster provided by Stephen Crabb MP, with accommodation donated by Travelodge. Other items included a trip on a pilot boat donated by MHPA and the use of a 1934 Bentley convertible and chauffeur for a day.

Milford Haven Rotary president, Frank Courie, thanked Valero for their support and declared it: "A very successful and enjoyable evening, resulting in over £4,000 raised in support of two very worthy charities - Pembrokeshire Sibling Group and Barnardo's Pembrokeshire Family Link."
