An application for a new premises licence for a proposed Co-op convenience store on The Green in Tenby has been given the thumbs up.

The application seeking to vary the hours of the operation and of servicing and deliveries (which were originally consented), to 6 am to 11 pm daily, was passed by members of Pembrokeshire County Council’s licensing sub-committee last week, who referred to the Secretary of State’s guidance that shops, stores and supermarkets should be able to sell alcohol at any time the shop is open.

Councillors in Tenby last week stated that they had concerns about the development, feeling that it would lead to an increase in traffic congestion on one of the main routes into the resort.

Tenby Town Council have written to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority expressing their views, with the authority stating that although planning for a retail plot on The Green had been granted in 2013, amendments to the design, and to the opening hours, were due for determination imminently.
