A man who stole a phone charger from a store in Pembroke Dock which wasn't even compatible with his mobile, has been fined by Haverfordwest magistrates.

Thirty-one-year-old Robert James Hamilton, of Main Street, Pembroke, was also charged with possessing amphetamine when he appeared before the court on Tuesday.

The prosecution explained that police executed a drugs warrant at Mr. Hamilton's premises on March 8, when two spoons were found under the defendant's mattress with traces of white powder on them.

He was also charged with theft, when police studying CCTV from the Tesco store in Pembroke Dock identified Mr. Hamilton on the premises and was seen to be ripping off the packaging and security tag of a £6.99 phone charger, which he then put in his pocket.

Mr. Hamilton's solicitor said that his client admitted historic use of amphetamine, but had been on the straight and narrow with regards to drugs since forming a new relationship in January.

He explained that his client apologised for the theft, which he said was a blip, and that the charger didn't even fit his phone and he could have afforded it anyway.

Magistrates fined Mr. Hamilton £75 for the theft and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge. He was fined a further £75 for the drugs offence and a destruction order was carried out.
