Ladies' Section

Yellow ball competition: On Wednesday, November 2, the yellow ball competition was played over 13 holes and consisted of teams of three - a high, medium and low handicapper. The weather was kind once again and the winners were the team of Ann Williams, Carole Blackwell and Shan Thomas, with 39 points, and runners-up were Mary Mountney, Viv James and Rachel Thompson, scoring 36. Well played!

Ladies' AGM: The Ladies' AGM was held at the clubhouse on Tuesday, November 8, with nearly all of the ladies attending the evening.

After presenting her final report, the lady captain, Ria Phillips, thanked the ladies for their support during her year and handed over the reins to the new lady captain, Mrs. Viv James. The evening finished with a glass of wine courtesy of the new captain.

A short pen portrait of the new lady captain: Viv was born in Aylesbury, Bucks. She went on to become a teacher at a Secondary Modern school, teaching English, geography and PE. She married her husband Owen at Stoke Mandeville. Owen, originally from Pembroke Dock, was also in education. In their 30s, they moved to Ross-on-Wye, where Viv taught in the Junior School. In the early '90s, Viv took up golf and joined Ross-on-Wye Golf Club, where she also became a committee member.

In 2004, they decided to go back to Owen's roots and moved to Llanreath, Pembroke Dock, with Viv's ageing mother Dorothy to look after. Dorothy has now moved into Ashdale Nursing Home, Pembroke, at the age of 103, giving Viv more time to enjoy her golf and her captaincy.

All the Ladies wish Viv a very successful year!

Winter eclectic: The first winter eclectic, played as a medal round over 14 holes, was scheduled for Sunday and Wednesday, Novem, ber 6 and 9. The weather was fantastic on the Sunday, almost like summer and the four ladies who entered were very pleased they did. Unfortunately, on the Wednesday, the weather was horrendous and the competition was called off, so the eventual winners came from the Sunday round, with Ria Phillips in first place on nett 64 and Pam Milliner second on nett 68.

Bad luck Wednesday girls and well done Sunday ladies!
