An SOS to the good people of Tenby and surrounding area has been issued in seeking support from locals to repaint the Tenby Bandstand this month.

Volunteers from the Men2Men group are looking for help to paint the railings on the iconic band stand on Castle Hill, and are hoping others will step forward to spare some time to scrape/paint, share a space to talk, listen, make new friendships and contribute to the community post Covid-19.

Men2Men is a new Voluntary Association aiming to develop a healthy living network for men across West Wales.

“We need help to run a two-week programme to repaint the railings of the bandstand and no experience is necessary as we can share our skills to make this happen,” explained Luke Conlon of the local Men2Men branch.

Can you help by: donning overalls to strip the railings; re-paint the railings; help us keep the band stand area safe; make the space welcoming to all; engage in conversations, make tea, share cake.

“We are most grateful to Tenby Town Council and the Harbour Master for their helpful support and help in instigating this opportunity for men and indeed Women to contribute to our community by engaging in this community initiative,” he continued.

“We are also looking to facilitate the setting up of a Men Shed in the town and through this initiative we will engage with men of the area to scope out a Men Shed for Tenby,” said Luke.

“A Men Shed is a space for men to meet up, share skills and make things for the community - this can be anything the men decide to do...bike repairs, boat repairs, community enhancement, art creations, furniture making.

“We want to tackle the widespread loneliness and isolation experienced by us men, through setting up a network that supports us men to make friendships, learning to listen to each other and share skills together.

“The experience of Covid-19 has affected us all and now more than ever we need to rejoin the community by working together to get to know each other more,” he added.
