There will be a wide range of classes open to everyone and the organisers encourage you to take part and support your local show. Prize money and certificates/rosettes are awarded in each class.
The Clunderwen and District Young Farmers’ Show Society gratefully acknowledges the support of the show president, show members, advertisers, sponsors, all judges and stewards, as well as the support of the community.
Clunderwen Show History
The origins of Clunderwen Show can be found amongst the history of Clynderwen Agricultural Society, established in 1911, and the formation of Clynderwen Young Farmers Club, established in 1929 as the first club in Wales.
The role of the Agricultural Society was to foster improvement in livestock, crops and horticulture, through the medium of exhibition. In a bid to attract younger members, the Young Farmers Club was established by the then secretary, Mr. E. R. Phillips.
Young Farmers Clubs of this day (1929/30) were required to keep something that lived or grew, and the Clynderwen Club decided on cattle. It became a calf club, and club members were expected to each rear a calf. In 1930, the Clynderwen Show Society incorporated a special class for the calf rearing project in its annual schedule 1930. Thirty-Five well-reared calves were shown on parade - a grand sight that attracted enormous attention. The first three prizes were won by three brothers - the Griffiths’ from Penlan, Clunderwen - all of whom were also champion ploughmen.
The Clynderwen Agricultural Society Show had gone into abeyance in 1963, having been inaugurated in 1911. However, it was decided to re-introduce the Clynderwen Calf and Horticultural Show in August 1979 with a Jubilee event. It was part of the Clynderwen YFC’s 50th anniversary celebrations that the show as we know it today was ‘re-kindled’. Held at Clynderwen Community Hall and Parc y Llwyn, various competitions included a parade of calves, sheepdog trials, folk dancing and tug of war.
Chairman’s message
The summer is well and truly upon us and the show season is well underway.
This year, I am delighted to be chairman of Clunderwen Show for 2015.
Our show is held on Saturday, August 29, at Parc Y Llwyn, Clunderwen.
Our show holds a significant role in local rural life in Pembrokeshire and we are proud to support and serve local farmers, exhibitors, traders and the community in general.
We are located on the edge of the village of Clunderwen, allowing us to benefit from local agricultural activity whilst enjoying a close community feel and the atmosphere of a local village show
There are classes for everyone, including cattle, sheep and horses, horticultural and a Kennel Club Dog Show.
Classes start at 8.45 am on the field and horticultural entries in the village hall are from 8.30-10.30 am. Field activities will include show-jumping, a vintage run, private drive and the parade of all cup winners.
To end the day, we have the local Tivyside Hunt parading their pack of foxhounds and a falconry display which has been very popular with the children in recent years.
The committee and I would like to thank all of our sponsors and exhibitors whose continued support and assistance we could not do without.
Also a thank you to the show presidents , Mostyn and Dill Williams, show members, all the judges and stewards, as well as the support of the community.
And lastly, a big thank you to our patrons, Mark and Eleri Williams, whom without the use of their wonderful fields at Parc Y Llwyn, the show could not go ahead.
Hope to see you all on show day - it’s going to be a fun day out for everyone.
