Ghouls, witches, wizards and vampires made their way to Golden Manor Nursery last Friday night.

Pembroke North Community Association (PNCA) and Golden Manor Nursery organised a joint Hallowe'en Party, to which all in the Pembroke North Community were invited.

And come they did.  Around 200 people of all ages flocked through the doors at 6.30 pm to join in the fun - mums, dads and children, grandparents and grandchildren - a real family occasion.

There was plenty to do - a kids' disco, best fancy dress competition, apple bobbing, colouring competition and fireworks.

Chairman Jim Clague cut a magnificent figure as Dracula and was delighted at the community response to this event.

"Yet again the community have turned up in force to join in, as in our summer event on the Green," he said.

"It shows that there is a great need for a community centre here, so that we can regularly hold events and meetings.

"In Pembroke North, we have no facilities at all: we have been bypassed by the authorities and by funders and it is time they took notice and supported us."

He extended thanks to Ruth Morgan for not only allowing the association to use the school and for sharing the event, but for organising the food in the form of hot dogs and burgers, which were a sell-out!

"She and her staff were rushed off their feet with such a big demand and did a magnificent job," explained Jim.

Thanks also went to Tomos Lindley for providing music and entertainment and to Wisebuys for donating the magnificent pumpkin.

PNCA was grateful for the assistance of the friendly neighbourhood policing team - Sgt. Leslie Buckle and PCSO Emma Thomas helped out with the children's activities and in judging the best costumes.

"This was a great example of a community event, with everyone helping out," added Jim.

Next month, a Christmas Party is to be held at Golden Manor Nursery on Saturday, December 17.

This will again be an event for all in Pembroke North, but because of numbers likely to attend, there will be a children's party during the afternoon, with Santa's Grotto, followed by an evening party for adults.

The  PNCA is seeking funding for this and wish publicly to thank Darren and his staff at Costcutter, Bush Hill Service Station, for their tremendous support in this and previous events and for kindly donating a percentage of their profits from the Single Use Carrier Bag Scheme to the Pembroke North Community.

PNCA is a voluntary organisation composed entirely of local residents working for the good of the community.

Meetings, to which all are invited, are now held on a regular basis on the first Tuesday of the month at Golden Manor Nursery at 7 pm.

They discuss issues and raise concerns affecting the community as a whole, but also deal with individual concerns - to this end, surgeries with the local policing team and with County Clr. Arwyn Williams are held after the meetings.

The committee would also be pleased to welcome anyone who can input ideas and offer the time to help.
