After a long wait, the people of Saundersfoot were delighted to have their new Play Park open on Saturday.

Ever since Pembrokeshire County Council announced they were no longer able to maintain or repair the old play equipment and it being unthinkable that the village would lose it, the Saundersfoot Community Council took it upon themselves to find a way to have new play equipment installed.

Several Councillors, led by now Vice Chairman Dean Ludlow, were to oversee the project, gaining funding from the Community Lottery fund, Enhancing Pembrokeshire Grant and a loan which is paid for from the consideration for the EE mast Lease.

Further exciting news is that the Council have been successful in securing a further grant to provide Communication Boards - a new project being rolled out in Play Parks across the County to enable children and adults to communicate in different ways.

A new pavement has been installed, along with the access being improved, enabling wheelchairs and pushchairs easier access into and out of the park.

The park equipment now includes a wheelchair/pushchair accessible roundabout, a basket swing and woodland trail as well as slides, swings, climbing frames and other exciting play equipment.

The Painted boards, that were displayed in the village during lockdown, have now been displayed within the park.

Mrs. Debbie Ludlow had the idea that once the boards were surplus to their requirements within the village, they could be sponsored by individuals or businesses and displayed within the park.

This raised an incredible £1,355 which will now go towards adding something else within the park. A massive thank you to those who donated, their names are displayed on the boards for all to see.

Thanks also go to Monkstone Bay Developments who donated all the materials and labour to attach the boards. Along with extra labour from Steven Noyce and Councillor Dean ludlow.

Thanks also to Steven for all his grass cutting skills in the park now and in the future.

West Coast Maintenance (Will Lewis) who again gave up his time for free to pressure wash down and clean all the playpark before opening.

Saundersfoot Community Council would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding throughout the Playpark rebuilding process and hope that it will be enjoyed for future generations to come!

Saundersfoot Community Council are also excited to announce the arrival of the new EE communication mast, which has been sited behind the changing rooms.

The money form the Lease will pay the loan for play equipment with the enhanced phone signal and internet access keeping the village up to speed.
